sala4D was engaged by Orange City Council to be part of the multi-disciplinary team to deliver the Orange Regional Conservatorium of Music.
Working with Brewster Hjorth Architects, a series of green walls were developed to create green facades around the building. The original design included using roof-top planters with plants that spill over the edge of the roof, to provide as quick and thorough planting as possible. Eventually, the green facade of the geodesic dome was removed. Given the Conservatorium’s location in Orange NSW, species choice was of particular importance, due to the short growing season and cold winters.
Tender documentation has been completed to deliver a series of public spaces, all with different planting characters. The internal courtyard is a particularly special space within the complex.
Construction is currently underway with planting anticipated for autumn/winter 2025.
