sala4D was engaged to create a design for the Cudal Community Children’s Centre which aims to order the space and to provide more zones for different age groups and play abilities. Sun safe principles are integrated throughout the design.
The key elements include creating a circuit path for bikes and scootering, with opportunities for interactive and sensory play adjacent to the path. Where the paths converge, a tree is planted to create a meeting point.
An integrated mound slide and kick-about lawn gives an active area, with the elevation providing a new play dimension. The slide is set amongst boulders and hardy planting to create a more natural play experience.
An expanded sand play area now incorporates water play, with a water pump, sand table and outdoor kitchen. These activities are sited under the existing trees, with more tree planting providing additional shade.
There is also an outdoor classroom for outdoor learning, reading and quiet time. Garden beds, a seat and additional tree planting reinforce this passive area.
A hen garden incorporating a new tank offers important early animal husbandry skills.
sala4D project managed the construction, which was completed in 2024.
